rss Breaking Barriers
Posted By: JimSeptember 24th, 2009

For those of you who have followed the site, I apologize for the hiatus, we’ve been a little preoccupied. I’m going to try to keep things a little more regular, however.

Anyway, if you don’t already know…I like pull-ups…especially wide grip pull-ups. The problem is that you hit a wall at some point. You can keep doing as many possible and trying to increase your max number of reps, but what does that really do? Eventually your muscles get too used to it, your rep increases plateau and you stop seeing results. I have encountered a similar issue with dips, but fear not, I have a solution for both. rss The key to losing fat, is eating healthy. Start Here.
Posted By: NashJuly 2nd, 2009

Get ready to have your mind blown. There are about 3500 calories in one pound of fat. When it comes to losing weight, that is THE key factor in my opinion.

Whenever someone asks me, what can they do to lose weight, I always tell them the same thing, “sure, you can do cardio - but the only way you’re going to see a change is through changing your diet.” Not to say its impossible to lose weight with cardio (its certainly not) - its just a lot more work, and I know a lot of lazy people.

For someone who is just starting to try and get healthy, running 10 minutes a day would seem like a good start. But if that person is only burning around 100 calories, they’re going to lose about 1 pound per month. Which I have a feeling is less than most people will aim for when trying to lose weight.

This is why eating healthy is so important. But for it to be really effective, you can’t just eat as much healthy food as you’d like, you need to eat proper portions (think the size of your palm).

Our parent/sister/relative site Excycle, recently launch an entire section devoted to health food recipes, which you can find here.

Whats really great about the way excycle, is the way they’re going about displaying the recipes. You can browse by food (chicken, beef etc.), by category (high protein, low carb etc.), by goal (fat loss, muscle gain etc.) and even by course type (dinner, lunch, protein shakes etc.)! This can help anyone trying to find exact foods to fit their diet!

Check it out and feel free to add your own health food recipe!

rss Getting Ready for the Summer (Part 2: The Workout)
Posted By: KilmerJune 4th, 2009

This could be you! ... one dayWalking to quiznos ain’t no thing but a chicken wing, running to the gas station to get a snickers isn’t sprinting, and shuffling around behind your desired guy/girl at da club isn’t resistance training. Get pumped, now that your diet should be a bit improved from part 1 of the series(if not remember, abs are made in the kitchen not the weight room), now comes the next part: working out. “I’m on a diet” doesn’t cut it as your plan for looking good for the summer. Your plan of attack should consist of exercising three-six days a week. “Oh noez! I don’t have time for that between video games, reading cosmo, and taking out the trash!” well suck it up, you gotta put the work in. Sucka.

rss The most innovative online supplement store.
Posted By: NashJune 2nd, 2009

Well, it’s live. Excycle.com We’ve launched excycle to revolutionize the supplement industry.

I know, I know, thats a tall order. But - we’re going to do it through a community, and a new approach to reviewing and buying supplements.

What does excycle do?: I’m glad you asked, excycle focuses on the person taking the supplement. They post a before review, and an after review. They can then view their results from taking the supplement. The data from all reviews are then aggregated for each supplement and shown to display how effective a supplement is, based upon the people taking them.

What’s the point?: The point is, most supplement reviews suck because you don’t know enough about the reviewer. If they have a totally different body type, goal, regiment, and diet, they’re also going to get totally different results. Thats where excycle is different!

We have A TON in store, and are rolling out new features every day! (We’ll try to keep you posted here as well)

We’re still in beta right now, so we’d love to hear any comments/thoughts/or suggestions!

rss Getting Ready for the Summer (Part 1: Your Diet)
Posted By: KilmerMay 26th, 2009

Granted some people are consistent, motivated fitness oriented individuals(like Maverick and Iceman), the rest of the universe may not be ready to look their best for the coming summer season. Well fret not; this guide will whip you into shape in 4-6 weeks. This is part 1 of 3 part series to get you looking your finest for the summer ladies and gents. That strapping young gent in the photo is a 1980’s Val Kilmer in a little known cinema-gem known as Top Gun.

Let’s start simple; you need to modify your diet. I’m not talking about eating celery sticks and drinking crystal light and nothing else for 8 weeks.

rss Hello world!
Posted By: KilmerMay 21st, 2009

vizzle Since I haven’t formally introduced myself, this is my shalom to our readers. I’m the newest addition to the yoGymbo team but I’ve known Nash for way too long, we did a sixth grade project in English class on Greek mythology together(along with Dan Hung). I’m the skinny guy in the mix, at least compared to the other two bro’s, but in my defense from freshman year to senior year of college I did pack on around 45 lbs of muscle. I’ve been weight lifting for six years, in addition I have a black belt in tae kwon do, four years of XC/Track & Field experience(highschool), was on the UMass Men’s Crew team, and am an avid cycler(co-founder of the UMass Triathlon club). I have been trying to find the delicate balance between having mass along with cardiovascular endurance. I’m a fiend for random info so I’m full of useful(and useless) information on cardiovascular exercises, weight lifting, and dieting.

What else… I make way too many bad jokes. I wear free/old t-shirts to the gym cause that’s how I roll and listen to ridiculous music when i run. I dance like a white dude, but the ladies go crazy for my sugar lumps(for all you flight of the conchords fans).

rss Optimum Repetition for Hypertrophy(Mass)
Posted By: KilmerMay 19th, 2009

Are you getting huge?

Anybody can be a jackass who does a lot of weight for one rep or who does 200 reps with the pink weights. Those that have lost their gym training wheels, discontinued bragging about their 145 lb bench, and decided to stop wearing wife-beaters/sleeve-less tee’s until there is something to show off are decidedly more interested in some more substantial gains. The question beckons, how many reps should I be doing?

rss The Arnold Press
Posted By: JimMay 12th, 2009

AhhhnoldDon’t lie, you all wish you could carry a big ass rocket launcher on your shoulder too. Well good news, with the Arnold Press you’ll be “John Matrix-ing” shit in no time. Ok so that’s obviously a slight exaggeration, deal with it. The Arnold Press is a variation of a basic shoulder or military press, it was indeed created by the Governator himself and is a favorite of many personal trainers. I myself use the Arnold Press, but I usually only do shoulders once a week, so I don’t get to do it too often. Either way let’s get into it….

yogymbo Statistics
Type: Strength/Mass
Difficulty: Intermediate
Muscles: Primary: Shoulders, Legs Secondary: Core

So I’ve always been more of an upper body kind of guy in the gym. Sure I did cardio and some other scattered exercises that worked my lower body, but it was all about beach muscle physique for me. Besides, I had always played soccer, skied, biked, ran track, whatever it may have been and my legs always stayed pretty strong and in shape. Now I’m not saying I’m going to become a lower body freak, because I’ve really stepped up my cardio game and I do a bunch of leg exercises as is, but on my full body days I’m gunna toss in a couple new exercises, one of which I want to talk about now. rss Whats in the pipeline?
Posted By: NashApril 2nd, 2009

I wanted to reach out and apologize for my lack of updates in particular, but I wanted to assure everyone that I’m still around. I’ve just been in the process of finishing up an HST cycle which I’ll be posting about soon, as well as some more gym related rants.

In other news, the main reason behind my lack of posts has been my current occupation: entrepreneur. I’ve been in the process of building a fitness company, which will be featured on yogymbo in the upcoming weeks! Until then, hold tight!

P.S. The other day my gym’s radio wasn’t turned on, and my friend and I who were working out together, seemed to be the only two people who knew each other in the entire gym. I never realized how awkward it can be when it feels like everyone in the building is listening to you. Well, awkward for them at least, I talk about some pretty weird shit in the gym.

Mmhmm...
