Back in Action

After about a five month hiatus, I decided that it may in fact be time to start posting again. I mustVeggies admit, however, that I had an outside source of inspiration. A good friend of mine started a video game blog, and posts on it just about every day while at work. I enjoyed reading his blog so much that it reinvigorated me to start writing again, and i figured if he can do it at work, then so can I.

Since it is so close to the new year, I figured I would touch on one of the most dreaded subjects known to man and woman kind (we don’t discriminate here at yogymbo)….the New Year’s Resolution. I’ve only really made joke resolutions in the past, because I figured I just didn’t have the desire or the willpower to make a serious attempt anyway, so why even try. Not this year though….this year….it’s personal (insert dramatic sound effect).

I’ve come a long way in the past few years with my workouts. I’ve gotten bigger, I’ve gotten stronger, but the one thing that’s been slow going is the definition. Now I’ve changed my workout around in an attempt to get that definition without losing strength, and it’s been working to a point, but there’s always that thin layer of fat…maybe a little thicker around the gut…that just won’t go away. I’ll admit, I’ve never been one for dieting, I cringe at the thought, but the only way I’m going to get rid of that winter blubber is to start eating right.

Initially, I’m not going to try to get too too crazy, but I’ve outlined some rules I think will help me get to where I want to be.

1. NO WHITE BREAD- the sugars in that crap just break down and go right to your fat cells. Use wheat, or whole grain, or wraps. That goes for pastas too, use whole grain pasta. If you’ve ever heard of Ezekiel Bread, that’s some good stuff to get.

2. Eat smaller meals more often and at the right times - Protein, simple/complex sugars and carbs, fats, there’s a proper time and place for all of it.

3.  No dairy - not necessarily no dairy, but certainly less, it’s all fat. Definitely no butter though, I’m going to try to not use butter at all anymore.

4. Natural foods - Peanut butter is a good example, it’s a good addition to any diet, but go to a store that has a station to grind fresh peanuts for you. The brand name stuff has too many hydrogenated oils and other garbage in it…and besides, the fresh ground stuff is cheaper. Along those lines, eat more fresh fruit and less sugary stuff.

6. Lots of brown rice and grilled chicken - I just feel like that’s probably a good idea.

7. Fewer egg yolks, More egg whites (I eat a lot of eggs, so this may apply to me more than others) - I like the whites better anyway, it’s just a pain to separate them, but the whites have all the good stuff and the yolks have all the bad stuff.

There are other foods I will be eating more and less of, these are just some of the guidelines I’m going to try to follow. If you have any suggestions/comments, please let me know.

P.S. Some ripped guy at my gym eats baked potatoes like whoa, and I know that when eaten with rice, they react with one another and are treated like protein by your body, but is there any other reason to eat 2-3 per day?
