I was at hanging out with some family friends the other day and my friend’s dad found out about yogymbo, so of course we started talking about working out. We were going back and forth about exercises and supplements when he mentioned something that really caught me by surprise, he was talking about how much more energy he has and what a better workout he has if he takes some sort of bee pollen product beforehand. I had never heard of this, so initially I thought it might have just been mind over matter or a sugar high or something, but I did a little research and this stuff might just be the real deal.
Bee pollen is considered nature’s most complete source of nutrition, according to researchers at the Institute of Apiculture, Taranov, Russia, “Honeybee pollen is the richest source of vitamins found in Nature in a single food.”
Exercise Benefits
So here’s one of the really interesting things about bee pollen, it’s 40% protein, making it a great exercise aid. In addition however, about half of that protein is in the form of free amino acids, which are immediately ready to be used by your body and can thus give you a nice energy boost. Research performed at various sports testing institutes have confirmed that atthletes working out with the help of bee pollen showed large increases in strangth, endurance, and stamina, all with no negative side effects.
Weight Loss
I’m sure many people will be happy to hear that bee pollen can also greatly aid in weight loss programs. Initially, bee pollen is able to stimulate the metabolic process, which will in turn burn more calories and increase your metabolism. Bee pollen only contains about 90 calories per ounce (2 tablespoons give or take). Additionally, bee pollen offers 15% lecithin by volume. Lecithin is a substance that helps dissolve and flush fat from the body. Finally, the phenylalanine in bee pollen can help act as an appetite supressant.
It sounds like this stuff just has everything the body needs and really helps in keeping all of the systems in your body in balance. Just an interesting little side note, bee pollen actually cannot be synthesized in a lab, scientists are continually trying and failing. There’s a lot more information out there about what this stuff does, but from what I’ve read it sounds like it would be pretty interesting to try, and the guy who told me about it swears by it at this point, so if you’re ever out and happen to see it, it might be worth picking it up.
